Department Manager – Structural Engineering

Our Peterborough office is seeking a highly motivated Senior Structural Engineer to take on the role of Department Manager. This is a full-time position with health benefits and paid vacation.

 

Responsibilities:
• Act as Senior Structural Engineer / Project Manager for small and medium size projects, with intent to develop skills toward a future discipline lead role for larger projects.
• Report to Branch Manager.
• Maintain existing business and develop new business opportunities.
• Manage workloads and resources in a highly collaborative environment.
• Provide technical supervision, mentoring and peer review.
• Recommend appropriate training/coaching, prepare evaluation reports and recommend disciplinary action.
• Monitor quality, schedule and cost adherence.
• Manage projects from proposal through design and construction.
• Prepare fee proposals.
• Complete engineering studies, designs, specifications and cost estimates.
• Develop designs and perform detailed structural calculations associated with the delivery of new build, renovation, and rehabilitation projects.
• Coordinate work with other disciplines including architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil etc.
• Create structural analysis models and design spreadsheets.
• Direct CAD team for drawing preparation and review deliverables prior to submission to client.
• Prepare written reports based on the structural analysis of existing buildings and other structures.
• Complete feasibility studies.
• Complete contract administration, review shop drawings during construction and visit construction sites to review conformance.
• Review engineering calculations and design drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issue to clients.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, other consultants, and key stakeholders.
• Attend client meetings and co-ordination meetings with design team.
• Maintain familiarity with current techniques and developments to sustain and improve technical skills.
• Working in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations of The Greer Galloway Group and its clients.

Qualifications:
• Professional Engineer, licensed in the Province of Ontario
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
• 5+ years of direct experience in structural engineering in the consulting engineering industry.
• Ability to work in a complex environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
• Experience in the design of buildings and municipal structures; design in concrete, steel, timber, masonry and aluminum.
• Knowledge of OBC, NBCC, CSA S16, CSA A23.3, CSA 086, CSA S304, CSA S157 and CSA-S6
• Proficiency with structural analysis and design software (i.e. STAAD Pro, Etabs, Revitt etc.)
• Strong written and oral communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and team centred focus.

Road Construction Contract Administrator (RCCA)

Our Kingston location is currently seeking two (2) full time Construction Contract Administrators to join our team.


Responsibilities:
• Manage inspection staff with the Project Manager delegating roles of site staff to effectively administrate the construction project.
• Oversee the Inspection of Contractor operations for a variety of disciplines on site, including grade, drainage, granulars, environmental controls, structures, asphalt and electrical.
• Read and apply all contract drawings, tender documents and applicable Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS) to the site operations.
• Chair all progress site meetings of construction projects operations and review/comment on Contractor’s scheduled Work.
• Review, calculate, monitor and recommendations on progress payments and on operations for change orders. Liaise between clients, contractors, municipal officials and third parties on¬site.
• Prepare and submit daily Contract Administrator Diaries and include payment statements.
• Review/comment on Contractor’s traffic control measures in accordance to OTM Book 7 requirements and comment on effectiveness.
• Review/comment on all Health and Safety concerns in the Contract Administrator Diary, as well as notifying the contractor immediately.
• Provide/maintain contract final information, to be delivered to the client at the project’s conclusion.
• Travel (or temporarily placed/stationed) to site will be required for this position


Qualifications:
• Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of highways project experience as a Contract Administrator
• Experience as a Contract Administrator on a minimum of three MTO or municipal projects with at least one project having had a value of at least $4M
• Experience on structural related projects considered an asset.
• Registration with OACETT as a Road Construction Contract Administrator (rcca) or P. Eng. License with PEO is required
• Strong knowledge of the OPS Specifications, Standard Drawings, Design Standards and other related Construction and Design Documents.
• Excellent written, verbal communication, analytical and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license
• Successful completion of the MTO Training – T131 Advanced Claims – Dispute Resolution course

Licensed Geotechnical Engineer (P.Eng.)

Mechanical Engineer

Our Kingston office is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer to join our Building Services Department.  The ideal candidate will be someone with strong experience in HVAC and plumbing design.  We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Mechanical team and produce conceptual and detailed designs of mechanical systems for commercial, residential and industrial buildings.  The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills in order to deal effectively with internal staff and clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage projects from start to finish within timelines and budgets with limited supervision
  • Actively pursue new business and provide input to proposals
  • Mentor and supervise junior staff
  • Provide designs, create plans, and produce specifications in accordance with established codes and standards
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to prepare engineering documents and calculations
  • Communication with clients and development of strong client relationships

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary education in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum 10 years of work experience
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (P.Eng.)

Mechanical Engineer

The Greer Galloway Group Inc. Belleville office has an opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer in the water / wastewater division. This position will primarily support design services for water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Other duties may include mechanical and civil related design and CAD services in areas such as sewer and watermain infrastructure, preparation of construction drawings and project specifications for bid-construct projects. Other aspects of the job may include: piping and pump selection, HVAC design, inspection and construction administration.

Preferred Qualifications:  Mechanical Engineer, P.Eng. with 5 to 10 years experience. Skills with AutoCAD and written and oral communication skills are required. A willingness to work as needed in different areas of discipline will be required for this position. We are looking for an aggressive, positive personality who is adaptable to various office and field duties. The candidate should be self-motivated with a desire to learn.
